Latin name: Sidalcea hendersonii
Plant Family: Mallow (Malvaceae)
Lifespan: Perennial
Origin: Pacific Northwest
Growing: They love moist soils and a good amount of sun. It does really well here in the Pacific Northwest and even does decent in a partially shady spot. Very easy to grow and doesn’t get very tall (maybe 3-4 feet).
Edibility: Like most mallows, the leaves and flowers are edible. The 2 perennial edible mallows that we grow on the farm are marshmallow and checker mallow. Spring greens are one of my favorite additions to salads.
Medicinal uses: Not really used as a medicinal plant although all mallows are mucilaginous and can be used for both topical and internal inflammation.
Permaculture Uses: Amazing beneficial insect attractor and perennial food crop. In my opinion, it’s a must have native plant.

7 Layers Nursery cannot take any responsibility for any adverse effects from the use of plants. Always do research and seek advice from a professional before consuming and/or using a plant medicinally.
