Bee balm, Pink (Monarda fistulosa) Bare Rhizome
Latin name: Monarda fistulosa
Plant Family: Mint (Lamiaceae)
Lifespan: Perennial
Origin: Eastern North America
Growing: It does great in full sun but I’ve had the best success with it in partial shade. It can do well in any soil as long as it is well drained.
Edibility: Flowers and leaves have a peppery flavor and it’s a great spice used both dry and fresh.
Medicinal uses: Bee balm is very antiseptic and can specifically be used for issues in the mouth. It can also be used to treat wounds as a poultice. The pink variety is a more preferred medicinal that the red.
Permaculture Uses: Great pollinator attractor for the shade/partial shade garden. Specifically great for hummingbirds.
7 Layers Nursery cannot take any responsibility for any adverse effects from the use of plants. Always do research and seek advice from a professional before consuming and/or using a plant medicinally.
